The Singapore National Youth Orchestra Student Committee was established with the aim of engaging members in the activities and decision-making processes contributing to the development of the orchestra. The committee also serves as a platform to empower members to lead and serve in the orchestra.

The Student Committee 2009 - 2011 comprises five members and two advisors. The committee shares a vision of developing SNYO into an orchestra that each young musician is proud to be part of, envisioning SNYO as a place where members grow together in their passion for music, deepen friendships, and forge a strong sense of belonging to the orchestra. The student committee hopes that all who graduate from the orchestra would agree that their stay in SNYO was a unique musical experience that they would always treasure with fondness and nostalgia.

The committee has played an active role in the management of the orchestra, and the organisation of student-initiated activities in the SNYO. In 2011, the committee collaborated with members of the SNYO Publicity Committee to co-produce the SNYO newsletter, Sound Post, which provides insightful updates about the orchestra’s recent activities. This issue of Sound Post was distributed at the LANXESS SNYO Classic concert, “Music in the Woods” at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, at the Singapore Youth Festival SNYO Concert, “A Romantic Reminiscence” as well as in Scotland, at the concerts which SNYO presented during the Aberdeen International Youth Festival 2011.

The committee also organised the SNYO June Camp held at the Goodman Arts Centre. Comprising of intensive rehearsals as well as team-building games, the camp served the dual purposes of preparing for the July concerts and tour, and forging camaraderie between orchestra members. Through such activities, the SNYO Student Committee hopes to continue bringing members closer together through shared experiences of good music and meaningful friendships.
