ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:
 
LI XIN
Li Xin is the Associate Principal clarinettist in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, he holds the Master of Music degree from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at NUS.
His formal music journey started with passing the audition to the middle school affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music for clarinet learning with Professor Gu Peng, followed by the study at Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing with Professor Tao Chunxiao. He has won the prizes at the National Clarinet Competition at the age of 16 in Beijing and the "Shanghai Spring" International Music Festival in 2001.
With a full scholarship awarded by YST Conservatory of Music at National University of Singapore, Li Xin continued studying with Ma Yue and completed his Bachelor degree of music. In April 2005, he was among the first group selected for YST Conservatory Fellowship Programme at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, USA, where he received coaching from Peabody faculty, as well as the clarinettist in Philadelphia Orchestra and the professor at Juilliard school.
In 2007, he continued studies in Europe, received lessons regularly with the clarinet professor in Geneva, Zurich and Lyon. He was accepted as freelance musician in the Orchestra of Zurich Opera and the Orchestra Musikkollegium Winterthur in Switzerland. Before he accepted the position in Singapore Symphony, he won the audition of Macao Orchestra as principal clarinettist.
Li Xin is passionate with chamber music, he formed clarinet quartet group Clarinet Concord with friends, and he is active tutor for the young clarinet players in Singapore, he teaches at School of the Arts, Raffles Girls’ School, Korean International School etc.
 
JEREMY CHUA
Jeremy started learning the clarinet during his secondary school days and went on to Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts to pursue his music education where he obtained his Diploma of Music Performance (Orchestra studies). He studied with SSO assistant principal Tang Xiao Ping.
 
He went on and persued his Bachelor of Music at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Duesseldorf under Prof. Ulf Rodenhaeuser and Prof. Kerstin Groetsch. Following that, He obtained his Master of
Music at the Leopold Mozart Zentrum Augsburg under Professor Harald Harrer.
 
Jeremy had also played in the Singapore National Youth Orchestra, Windstars Ensemble, Orchestra Collective, Singapore Lyric Opera, Musicians' Initiative, SAF Central Band, Junge Blaeserphilharmonie NRW, Orchesterzentrum NRW Dortmund and Neusasser Chamber Orchestra.
 
He is a keen chamber musician, who has performed many beautiful chamber works from Mozart, Weber, Brahms, Wellesz, Dvorak, Bruch, etc. Lastly, he won the NAFA concerto competition in 2009 together with clarinettist Ivan Ng and also won 2nd Prize in the 2nd Flute Festival Ensemble Competition 2011 with friends flautist Daniel Bonaventure Lim and pianist Thomas Ang. Together with his string quartet, they were at the final round in the 2016 Schmolz-Bickenbach Chamber music Competition.
 
As of 2020, he is the main instructor for St. Gabriel's Secondary School Concert Band (his alma mater) and is the clarinet tutor for many education institutions ranging from Secondary schools, to tertiary level and to the SAF Central Band and SPF Band
 
Jeremy plays on a pair of Yamaha CSG III clarinets and Vandoren products. He became an Yamaha Artiste as of 2021.
 
DAVID ZECHARIAH KWEK
David Zechariah Kwek holds a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) degree from the Royal College of Music (London) in collaboration with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore). He has studied with Tang Xiao Ping, Janet Hilton and Michael Harris. His achievements include the UO SOMD Graduate Employee Award of Excellence in Teaching (2022-23), NAFA Merit Award AY2018/19, Best Graduate Award 2019, Embassy of Peru Award 2019 and the 1st prize (under 26 years old category) at the Clarinet Asia Competition held in Macao. He is pursuing his Master of Music Performance degree at the University of Oregon, School of Music and Dance under the tutelage of Dr. Wonkak Kim. He is also the Graduate Employee Instructor of Clarinet, a role that invovles overseeing the teaching and administrative duties of the clarinet studio.
 
David is a Yamaha Artist and plays on YCL-SE Artist Models Bb & A clarinets.
 
MIAO KAIWEN
Singaporean musician Miao Kaiwen embraces a multitude of interests that led her to a diverse musical journey in both performance and teaching.
As a versatile clarinettist, she has performed both locally and overseas in more than 20 cities covering Asia, Europe and North America. A second prize winner in the World Music Contest Kerkrade Biennale Chamber Competition 2016 (the Netherlands), some highlights of her overseas projects include Suntory Hall (Japan) Chamber Project 2016 and Mediterranean Opera Festival 2017 in Italy. Locally, Kaiwen has performed with various professional ensembles including Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, reSound Collective and the Wayfarer Sinfonietta. She also plays regularly with Orchestra of the Music Makers and is a member of the management team.
Kaiwen’s teaching experiences are diverse as well. She was a chamber coach as part of the Orlando Chamber Festival in the Netherlands and has tutored in many local settings. Some highlights include Singapore WBAS Youth Band Festival and Singapore National Youth Orchestra. She has also taught in various local school bands and believes in creative teaching methods. Currently, she is an instructor at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music as part of the Career Orientation and Community Engagement team.
Kaiwen holds a Master’s degree (Clarinet performance) from Conservatorium Maastricht (Netherlands) and a Bachelor's degree from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. She is now pursuing a PhD in Music Education at the National Institute of Education and is tremendously grateful how her music journey has connected her with many other disciplines.
